How to Bond Fiberglass to Fiberglass
- 1). While wearing a respirator, scuff the entire surface to which you'll be applying fiberglass using coarse grit sandpaper and a palm sander. For the best bond, thoroughly scuff the surface. Remove any raised burs or uneven spots.
- 2). Wipe the entire area clean with a rag and acetone. Remove any grease or dust that is on the surface. Let area dry for a few minutes.
- 3). Mix the resin and hardener together following the guidelines on the containers. Use a small bucket and a stir stick to mix the resin. Stir until the mixture is a uniform color.
- 4). Apply the resin to the surface using a felt roller. Lay the fiberglass mat onto the wet surface and apply more resin using the felt roller. Wet the mat until there are no dry white spots remaining.
- 5). Remove any air bubbles using a bristle air roller. Go over the entire surface of the mat until it is even and flat. Let dry until the fiberglass is hard and cool to the touch.
