Support Ethical Screening and Human Rights in the UK Today

Ethical screening is a service that supports businesses, cooperatives, charities, organisations and individuals who invest money. The purpose is to ensure that the money is being invested in good causes and ethical activities. The ethical investor has principles and concerns including human rights, the environment and animal welfare.

Ethical trading is when the buyer has concerns over the working conditions of all of the people involved within the supply chain. Organisations who are concerned about ethical trading support the alliances that are working together to stamp out slave labour, physical and mental abuse, child labour and other inhumane activities.

Slavery was abolished many years ago in the developed world however in third world countries slave labour is still in practice. It is known that forced labour is happening today in the food industry. The scary facts that have recently come to light are that forced labour has been going on in the UK food industry.

Exploitation and forced labour was reported from migrant workers and the disturbing facts were discovered in this way. It is thought that gang masters would pay the fees incurred to help migrant workers come across to the UK and in turn the migrant workers would be in debt to the gang and have to comply with unreasonable requests and inhumane conditions. This meant the exploited illegal employee would have to do as he was told and put up with unacceptable conditions.

Working conditions for these exploited employees are cramped and the working day is long and hard. Cases of physical abuse have been reported and mental torture is just as bad, workers would be threatened with losing their jobs and thrown out onto the streets. As workers were often given accommodation as part of the job this would also be substandard meaning the inhumanity continues into their lives outside of work.

The unfortunate victims of this exploitation against human rights are often treated in such a way that they remain trapped and unable to break free of the trap that has been set for them. The fees that the workers are paying back to the gang masters are so high and the wages are so low the treadmill to pay back the debt never ends.

The concern is that these people are in the position that they are because they have been escaping something worse in their own countries and they have little understanding of the system or how the abuse they are receiving has been planned by the gangs.
