How to Clean Antique Pewter Plates

    • 1). Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and a squirt of a mild liquid soap, such as hand or dish soap.

    • 2). Dip a clean soft cloth into the soapy water. Wring the cloth.

    • 3). Rub the soapy water onto the antique pewter plate gently. Continue until the front and back surface of the plate has been cleaned. It is not recommended to submerge the plate in the soapy water.

    • 4). Rinse the soft cloth to remove all soap residue. Wipe down the plate with the dampened cloth to remove all soap residue.

    • 5). Use a towel to dry the plate. Remove all water to prevent corrosion or oxidation.

    • 6). Dip a soft cloth in a polish, such as Renaissance wax. The wax is optional, however, it improves the brightness of the pewter plate and and adds a thin layer of protection. Rub the cloth over the antique pewter plate to coat the plate in a thin, even layer of wax.
