The Palm family of handheld personal digital assistants began with the Palm Pilot. The original units were meant to serve as pocket portable extensions of a host computer. Continuing advancements through a succession of developers allow Palm devices to communicate with a host computer via USB cables or Bluetooth connections. Palm handhelds now include units classified as smart phones with wireless cell phone connectivity. Palm photo options take, store and transmit color photos.

All Palm Pixi, Pre and Treo units have a built-in camera and flash unit. By selecting the camera option from the main menu the user can take a picture in portrait or landscape mode. After the picture is snapped it remains on the screen for an action option. The picture can be saved, deleted or emailed through the smart phone. An advice notice on the screen indicates the size of the picture in kilobytes and how many pictures can be taken in the remaining onboard storage space. A second screen offers options to create a new album or view existing albums. Select an album and tap on small pictures to display a larger version on the screen.
