US Airport Arrival Performance
FlightStats reports that year over year, 2007 was a pretty abysmal one for on time arrivals. Measuring the performance at major US airports, on-time performance for the year is down significantly and cancellations and excessive delays are up at almost every one of the major US airports.
FlightStats reviewed the 2007 statistics for the 28 largest US airports. They report that 4.3 million flights out of 6 million flights arrived on time, an on-time performance of 71.65% which may sound okay on the surface, but it represents almost a 5 percentage point drop from the year before for the same airports. 130,575 (2.16%) of all flights were cancelled at the largest airports in 2007.
11.2% of all flights arrived more than 45 minutes late.
The best on-time arrival performance was Orlando (78.49% on time), Phoenix at 78.17% on time, and Cincinnati at 77.9% on time for the year.
The worst on-time arrival performance was the triple New York area airports of JFK International (59.78%), Newark (58.05%) and LaGuardia(57.62%).
26 of the top 28 airports in the US saw worse on-time arrival records and only 2 saw any improvements namely Atlanta and Seattle, which were up two and one percentage points respectively.
Cancellations were also up at 20 of the 28 airports studied. And the bad news continues with 26 of the 28 airports suffering from more excessively delayed flights.

The winter of 2007 / 2008 is likely to contribute to poor on-time performance for both the US and Canada.
