Audio enthusiast rejoice! If you're tight on budget and looking for superior sound, the Sony CDX-GT640UI delivers, and it comes with a side of quality. Packed with an array of features, this little powerhouse rivals the top dogs of the market, at the fraction of the price.
Personal Opinion: "easily on the Top 3 stereos in the $100-$130 range"
Right from the get go, the CDX-GT640UI might seem like a normal car stereo, but the features make it stand out. Before I jump into my personal opinion, lets take a look at some of the features of the Sony CDX-GT640UI.
Aesthetics:
* has a Tilt Range of 0-45 mounting angle - making it easier for your neck and eyes to view the faceplate when it's facing up
* navigational buttons are evenly spaced, leaving more room for your fingers and less mistakes conifguring
* ability to change color theme illumination from blue to green and vice versa
* USB and AUX-IN connections giving you the versatility to input multiple devices
Expandability:
* SAT (Satellite) Radio Ready
* HD Radio Tuner (you need the XT-100HD which is sold seperately)
Key Features:
* 52 watts of peak power to all four speakers (208 total watts)
* DM+ (Digital Music Plus), an original Sony codec enhancer
* Radio Data System - music information (Title, Artist, Album) from the radio
* Integrated Low Pass Filter and High Pass Filter to deliver an overall better sound
Personal Opinion
Sony has done a spectacular job with the CDX-GT640UI. From a "what's on the paper" standpoint, the GT640UI provides what a lot of car stereos are providing, it's the honest truth. Having a USB and AUX-IN are becoming standard and it seems like satellite is following suit.
So how does a car stereo stand out in this fierce market? Easy, give customers convenience! By offering the Radio Data System - this little feature has made it convenient for radio listeners to know what song is playing and who's playing it. There have been multiple times where I'm driving listening to the radio, and I have no idea what song is playing, making it really hard for me to search for the song in the future. Trust me, this is a really great feature to have. I'm falling behind in the music world that I don't know some artists and songs these days
For the price, it'd be very hard to find something better. It's normally $150 but you can shop around for good prices. The CDX-GT640UI is without a doubt, one of the best stereos in the $120-$150 price range.
