How to Multiply Mixed Improper Fractions
- 1). Multiply the whole number in both mixed numbers by their respective denominators. If the number is 2 and the denominator is 5, your total would be 10.
- 2). Add the numerator to the products you generated in the last step. If the numerator was 3, your answer would be 13. This renders the mixed numbers as pure improper fractions.
- 3). Multiply the numerators and denominators of both fractions with each other. If the first fraction is 12/10, and the second one 5/3, the product should be 60/30.
- 4). Simplify the fraction by dividing the numerator and denominator by a divisor that leaves a whole number as a quotient. For example, you can divide 60 and 30 by 30 and get 2/1 or "2." Repeat this step until you are no longer able to find a divisor that leaves a whole number.
