DIY Glitter Clothing
- 1). Lay the article of clothing on a flat, clean surface with the area to receive the glitter facing up. Make sure that the clothing is clean and dry. Use clothes made out of cotton or cotton blends as the fabric glue will stick best to these.
- 2). Apply a small amount of fabric glue to the area of the clothing you want to contain the glitter. Flatten the glue by spreading it with the tip of the glue bottle. This will allow you to apply glitter to larger areas and will make the glitter sit closer to the cloth. However, if you want to outline designs, squeeze the glue out in thicker lines, but do not flatten it. Instead, create bits of raised detail.
- 3). Gently pour glitter onto the fabric glue. Make sure that the glue is completely covered. It is OK if other parts of the fabric are covered as well. The glitter will only stick to the glue.
- 4). Set the clothing aside for one or two hours to allow the glue to dry completely. Pick up the clothing, and gently shake it over some spread-out newspaper. This will cause the loose glitter to fall off, leaving just the glitter that has adhered to the glue.
- 5). Wash the clothes by hand or using the gentle cycle on your washing machine. Hang up the clothes to allow them to dry. After they are completely dry, shake them out again to get rid of any lingering bits of glitter caught in the fabric. Wash again or go over the clothes with a lint roller to remove unwanted glitter.
- 6). Spray the clothes lightly with hair spray from about 10 inches away to prevent the glitter from shedding as you wear it. Allow the hair spray to dry completely before donning your new glittery outfit.
