The climatic conditions and the topography of the region greatly contribute to the rich diversity existing here. The dense forests stretching across the mountain slopes along with the vegetation and wildlife makes it the perfect holiday destination for tourists from around the world.

The expanse of the sanctuary covers about 46800 hectares, which is an amazingly large spread for a sanctuary. The journey to the place is as exciting as reaching the destination. Travelling by road is one of the best options for tourists once they reach the nearest cities by air or train.

The fun seems to multiply, when travelling along with several other tourists or a huge group in a bus. Bus services are very active in this route and one can easily avail this by booking bus tickets online, as most of the agencies have their own websites.

The flora and fauna in this sanctuary is huge and flourishing owing to the excellent climatic conditions and the sufficient amount of rain. Srivilliputhur Giant Squirrel Sanctuary is adorned by rich vegetation of tropical evergreen forests, semi evergreen forests, dry deciduous trees, and the undulating grasslands.

There are many species of animals found in this sanctuary of which the most significant are the Grizzled Giant Squirrel and the elephants. The interbreeding among the different species of elephants found in the region has lead to the rise of a healthier breed whose population is expanding each year. At present there are about hundred and fifty elephants in the sanctuary.

When travelling in a group you can easily hire a bus for a fun-filled experience along with your entire group. While travelling, one of the most enjoyable activities is to try and spot the different species of birds and animals in the region.

Other animals and birds found here are the flying squirrel, barking deer, mouse deer, lion-tailed macaque, tree shrew, Nilgiri Tahar, wild boar, porcupine, sambar, spotted deer, leopard, tiger, common langur, sloth bear, the Great Indian Hornbills, and many more. They arrive here during the breeding seasons and then this place becomes a delight for people, who love bird watching.

Trekking is a fun activity for tourists here, but a trek guide is necessary, as there are no proper roads available inside the sanctuary. This is truly a place for those, who wish to experience the wilderness. Once inside the sanctuary you become part of it and there is so much to learn and experience.

Srivilliputhur Giant Squirrel Sanctuary is open for visitors all throughout the year and you may visit it any time according to your convenience. Bus tickets reservations can be made through the internet by selecting any particular bus service company running on this route.
