    • 1). Rinse the pit thoroughly to remove any fruit still clinging to it. Set it on a counter to completely dry.

    • 2). Place the pit into a vice and increase pressure slowly until it cracks enough for you to get the seeds out. If no vice is available, stand the pit up on a hard surface and tap with a hammer until it cracks.

    • 3). Fill a container with tepid water and place the seeds inside. Let them soak overnight.

    • 4). Fill a jar with potting soil up to an inch from the top and add enough water to moisten it all the way down. Push the seeds into the soil and place a lid on the jar before putting it on the bottom shelf of a refrigerator.

    • 5). Check the seeds after they have been refrigerated for a month. If you don't see roots, place them back in the refrigerator for another month. Continue this until roots are seen.

    • 6). Plant seedlings in a high quality potting soil once roots appear. Keep the soil moist but not overly damp and place the container in an area that receives bright, filtered light for the majority of the day. Plant outdoors in early spring after the last frost.
