How to Upgrade a Traxxas Rustler
- 1). Turn over the Rustler so that the wheels are pointed up and remove the four screws that hold the chassis shell to the chassis. Lift the chassis from the frame.
- 2). Use a Dremel tool and the #115 and #194 bits to trim plastic from the frame, only in areas that do not support the weight of the chassis. Plastic around the transmission and the back of the battery tub, two places where you can safely trim and remove weight.
- 3). Replace the stock 1200 MAH battery with a 3500 MAH battery. Place a small piece of Velcro tape on the battery and the corresponding piece of Velcro tape inside the battery tub, so that they line up when you place the battery in the tub.
- 4). Push the flat edge of a small screwdriver between the cable and crimped portion of the battery connectors. Push on the end of the screwdriver while pulling on the cable to remove the connector from the cable. Place the ends of the power cables into the Power Pole connector cable holders, and use needle nose pliers to crimp the connectors to the cables. Wrap the area where the cable and connector crimp together with one layer of electrical tape.
