Because of this, completing a part-time unpaid internship to gain valuable experience is recommended. In addition, some organizations offer on-the-job training for interns and newly hired employees.

    Job Outlook and Salary

    • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a public relations specialist could expect to earn between $30,520 and $96,630 per year in 2009. The industry is expected to grow 24 percent between 2008 and 2018.
