Picking Out the Perfect Blanket for Your Bed

105 13
There are many choices in picking out a new blanket for your bed.

Cotton Blankets

The most popular type of blankets are those made from cotton. They are generally very easy to care for and quite affordable. They are also great all year round, since the cotton breathes.

Wool Blankets

Wool, as a material, is very durable and will keep you quite warm. One of the main drawbacks however, is that many people are sensitive to wool and find it to be rather scratchy. Though a wool blanket will last a very long time, it must be properly cared for. It will either need to be carefully washed in cold water, or taken into a dry cleaner.

Fleece Blankets

Fleece has recently become a very popular material for blankets. Not only is it very soft, but it provides excellent warmth while sleeping in bed. As a comparison to wool, they are generally warmer. Fleece is also a very easy material to care for. The fleece material itself is made from polyester and acrylic fibers. You may even be surprised to learn that many fleece blankets are actually made from recycled water bottles!

Electric Blankets

If you live in a colder climate, than you may want to consider purchasing an electric blanket. They are very popular because of their ability to generate a gentle heat that will keep you warm and cozy throughout the night. For couples that have different sensitivities to heat and cold, you can find them with two heating zones, controlled by separate thermostats.

Down Blankets

Aside from electric blankets, the down blanket is generally preferred in colder climates. The down feathers trap air inside the blanket providing unparalleled insulation. Down blankets are also very comfortable. Normally, you find them with a quilted design, perfect for keeping the down feathers from moving around too much. You can also use them with duvet covers, perfect for keeping them clean and changing the look of the bed with each cover change.
