Pop Up Pool Tips
- It is important to locate the most level section of your yard. It is not required to use sand, but it is best for the protection of the bottom of the pool. Sand is also used for yards where there is no level location for the pool. Use approximately 3/4 tons of sand. Spread the sand with a garden rake. Use a 12-foot, 2-inch by 4-inch board to level the sand. Set the board up on its side and drag it across the sand. This creates a level surface for the pool.
- Spread the tarp on the sand. The tarp comes with the pool. This provides added protection for the bottom of the pool. After the tarp is spread, lay the pool on top of it and unroll it. Connect the filter hoses to the holes on the side of the pool. Connect the other end of the hoses to the electric filter. The instructions to the pool will tell you exactly how to connect the hoses. Use an electric air pump to fill the top ring around the pool.
- All you need is a garden hose to begin filling the pool. This is the longest process of the entire pool setup. It takes several hours to fill the largest pop up pool. The largest of these pools is 18 feet in diameter and 4 feet deep. Once the pool is filled you will need to use pool chemicals to keep it clean.
- The filter should be run daily. The electric filter that comes with the pop up pool requires a cartridge that goes inside of it. These can be purchased at pool supply centers and super centers. You will also need to use chlorine to kill bacteria, and a shock treatment to keep the water clear. The amount of chemicals that you use is based upon the number of gallons of water that the pool holds. A sales representative at any pool supply store can help you learn how to balance the chemicals in your pool.
- The larger pop up pools are not exempt from pool laws and regulations. You must have a fence at least 48 inches high around the pool, and the gate to the fence must be locked. This is to make sure that no young children have open access to your pool. Always exercise caution and remove the ladder from the pool when not in use.
- It is important to note that the only thing holding up this type of pool is the water. If you lean on the side of it or on the top ring, the pool will collapse.
