How To Save Money With A Water Meter - Part 2 Of 3

103 15
Everyone knows that taking a shower instead of a bath/hot tub is far more water-efficient.
But do you get the most from your 'shower experience'? Have you got a shower technique that saves you money and is good for the environment? Top tip no.
4: Have all your accessories ready before you turn on the shower.
Many people waste time in the shower finding their favourite shampoo and shower gel.
They then waste more precious heat by trying to screw the cap off the shampoo with wet fingers! Decide what you want before the water is turned on, and loosen all the tops, caps and anything else that wet hands might make difficult.
You will save valuable minutes and have a faster shower.
If you miss your leisurely shower experience, perhaps you could decide to take that type every weekend.
While the jokes that states "Save water - shower with a friend" might sound like fun, it is not a very efficient way by which to wash yourself since you are likely to get distracted! Top tip no.
5: Get a toilet with a setting for small and large flushes.
This particularly applies if you are buying a new property, or replacing an toilet.
A toilet flush represents a large proportion of your daily usage and using a small flush where necessary saves a lot of water.
It is sometimes possible to replace the flushing mechanism with one that includes a half flush.
Some people do not flush the toilet after every use, especially when they are only passing urine, but that is a very personal decision to make.
It does mean that you might have to clean the toilet bowl a little more regularly.
Top tip no.
6: - Fix leaking taps as soon as possible.
Most houses have a slight leak which eventually gets repaired when it becomes a torrent.
If you need some motivation to get it fixed, simply leave the plughole in overnight and see how much water is dripped.
Besides which, the noise of a tap dripping into water is extremely annoying and might spur you into action! Even applying one of these tips can help you save money (if you are charged or rationed) or, perhaps more importantly, save the environment.
Remember that a lot of energy is required to process water to make it drinkable and usable and the less you use, the less effect on global warming and landscape.
In the final article, I will suggest some effective environmental practices.
