Central heating is perhaps the most efficient way to heat your home. The heart of the central heating system is the central heating boiler, which is responsible for creating the heat supplied to the entire building. Understanding how the different types of boilers function, can be important in deciding which is the most suitable for your building, whether is a home or an office building or a commercial structure.

Water is heated in the boilers, either through burning of oil or natural gas or by electrical energy. The water is then sent to outlets where is needed such as the faucets, radiators or showers, while the heat is distributed throughout the home through the air vents and ductwork. You can have multiple central heating boilers in your home, and programmers or thermostats are used to set individual temperatures. An increasing number of homes are integrating home automation controls in the heating system units to program heating times, in order to conserve energy.

The type of central heating boiler you install in your house will depend on the style of your home and the occupants. One of the most popular types of boilers, is the combi-boiler, which is a dual-purpose unit that not only produces heat from heating water, but simultaneously supplies the hot needed in the house, for other purposes such as cleaning or showering. The combi-boiler eliminates the need for storing any water, as the water is directly heated on-demand. Combi-boilers are suited for apartments or flats where there is only one bathroom, but more space is saved.

Homes or locations with multiple bathrooms are better served with a system boiler. A warm water-storage tank is actually needed, but, hot water can be delivered many outlets at the same time, without many poor effects such as a drop in pressure rates or water flows. However in order to make the system work, several other components such heaters, fans, pumps and motors are needed in addition to the storage tank.

An open vent boiler will usually include two tanks that are installed in the loft area, along with a hot water storage tank. One tank supplies hot water to the radiator, while the other supplies water to the storage tank. From the storage cylinder, water is then distributed to needed outlets such as the showers and appliances such as dishwashers. System boilers have been around for a long time, and now being replaced by more efficient heating systems. They may still be noticed in older homes.

Converting an older home to a more efficient heating with a central heating boiler system can be a costly venture, but it can be done cost-effectively, if there are a large amounts of changes to be made. Some very interesting techniques are available to help with cost reductions.

Smart home automation units that allow programming of the temperatures for extended periods can be used to set the temperatures at specific times in order to conserve energy. Regular servicing of boilers is absolutely essential to prevent mis-happens and avoid any potential problems. The period of service required will be determined by the condition and age of the boiler as well as the frequency of use.

A central heating boiler system is a very effective way to heat your home. There may be several different types of boilers which remain the most important part of the central heating boiler system.
