How to Put a Tire in a Rear Tire Mount of a Ford F350
- 1). Open the front passenger door. Press down on the locking tabs on the plastic side panel of the seat and pull the panel away from the seat so you can see underneath.
- 2). Remove the wing nut bolt holding the Ford F-350 tire jack set under the passenger seat. Pull the tire jack set out.
- 3). Assemble the control arm of the tire jack set. These are the long pieces with lock balls on each end that snap together to form a bar with a hook about 4 feet long. The last piece has a square cut out of the middle; place the end of the control arm through that hole. The last piece forms a "T" handle for the control arm. You do not need the actual tire jack from the kit.
- 4). Stand at the rear bumper of your Ford F-350. Look to the right of the center of the bumper and you will see a hole. Look into the hole and you can see the raising and lowering mechanism of the rear tire mount. Insert the hooked end of the control arm of the jack set through the hole, and hook the mechanism.
- 5). Turn the "T" handle of the control arm counter-clockwise until the cable and "T" bar at the center of the rear tire mount are laying on the ground. You don't want the "T" bar at the end of the cable to be just touching the ground but laying on it with slack in the cable.
- 6). Push your spare tire under the back of your truck with the outside rim of the tire facing down. Pull the "T" bar and cable of the rear tire mount out of the way so they do not become trapped under the tire. Roughly center your spare tire under the rear tire mount.
- 7). Put the "T" bar of the rear tire mount through the center of the rim of your spare tire. Slowly turn the "T" handle of the jack control arm clockwise to begin to draw in the slack on the cable. Make sure that the "T" bar catches on the inside of the rim and continue turning the handle to lift the tire up into the rear tire mount. When you cannot turn the handle any farther, your tire is fully mounted. Remove the jack control arm, dissemble it and return it to the tire jack set.
