Blunders Your Sign Designer Might be Committing
Is the Message Displayed Confusing?
The internet may be full of funny typos on sign boards and those photographed and uploaded on a website. This is done to create hilarious posts and make people laugh out loud when they read such posts. However, if the same error reflects on your business signage - any spelling, grammatical, typos or misalignment errors - will create a very bad impression on your potential customers. Ensure that no such mistakes occur while designing or printing at the proofing stage. A typo may convey a confusing message to your targeted audience. Let's cite an example. Say for instance, you have a photo lab on a busy high-street. The message runs as follows: ‘Get instant photos 7 Days a Weak'. The correct spelling should be week. And, if this type of mistakes creeps into your sign, it reflects unprofessionalism.
Again, if you are integrating pictures, ensure that high resolution images are used and they do not appear blurry, unclear or pixelated. The lettering too should be in sync with the overall product size. The colors used should contrast with the background color so that passersby (walking or driving) are able to see your brand message clearly from a distance.
Is It Even Worth Remembering?
The other day I was just passing by a café. It had a big display no doubt but with a lot of inconsistencies. First of all, the design, color and tagline were not consistent with the brand image. That's because the same café have different colors, design components and typography on its website. If this happens, customers will not be able to recognize your brand. In fact, they will have a doubt whether it's the same brand or not.
To avoid such ambiguities, make sure color, logo, taglines and design elements are consistently used and look similar to what have displayed on your company's website.
No Maintenance
Illuminated products and neon displays are robust outdoor advertising tools to attract the attention of passersby, customers, and create impulse sales. However, if the same is used in an improper way or not maintained, the impact will be exactly the opposite. A flickering neon display or a broken illuminated sign will make customers assume that you do not care much about your brand image. If some of the letters are burnt out, the message you are trying to communicate will not reach your consumers.
To cut the long story short, it's imperative that your sign is mended before the bad impression has a negative impact on your customers.
What measures are you taking to improve your business sign? To fix it, you need to first understand where you have gone wrong in the first place. Is it the color, logo placement or the tagline?
