Some Thoughts on Choosing Designer Furniture As Bedroom Furniture

103 9
Our bedrooms are highly personal spaces that we rarely use to show off our design skills and taste.
But they are incredibly important rooms to us, personally.
Surely then, they should be considered as important as, if not more important than any other room in the house when it comes to design choices and decoration.
You will spend a third of each day in your bedroom, and so it's imperative that your design choices are made carefully.
You need to make thoughtful judgments about both your bed and your bedroom furniture.
Also there are the considerations of soft furnishings, flooring and accessories.
Single beds are useful for children and are acceptable as guest beds too - guest rooms are often quite small, so a larger bed would dominate the space.
When choosing a single bed, be careful not to specify an inferior mattress, especially if the bed is to be used by a child.
Children require excellent back support at night to ensure good posture.
Your guests will will appreciate a superior mattress, too! Remember to make sure the bed fits the space.
Always go for the biggest bed you can so you can stretch out comfortably, but be careful not to let the bed dominate the room.
Super king beds may be lovely to lie in, but not so lovely to have to shuffle around! Beds come in various sizes: Single beds - 3'0" wide x 6'3" long (90cm x 190cm) Double beds - 4'6" wide x 6'3" long (135cm x 190cm) Queen sized beds - 5'0" wide x 6'6" long (150cm x 200cm) Super queen beds - 5'6" wide x 6'6" long (170cm x 200cm) King sized beds - 6'0" wide x 6'6" long (180cm x 200cm) Super King beds - 6'6" wide x 6'6" long (200cm x 200cm) Even a good bed will last only around ten years, and it's important to replace both the mattress and the base unit at the same time.
If you replace just the mattress, dust (made of old skin cells your body's shed) and mites will simply transfer up from the old base to your new mattress.
An old bed base will already be worn and will reduce the life-span of a new mattress too.
If you or your partner suffer with back problems, however sporadically, it is worthwhile to investigate different mattress and pillow fillings, designed specifically for back-pain relief.
There are plenty of popular styles for your bedroom: rustic, gothic, art deco, ethnic, contemporary or formal, to name but a few.
It's important to remember that if you're to follow one of these styles that all aspects of bedroom furniture, bed dressing, fabrics, soft furnishings and lighting should all complement one another.
Mixing and matching styles often works quite well, as does the placing of contemporary designer furniture in a more traditional setting: contemporary beds will work beautifully in old barn conversions.
Finally, bedrooms aren't 'heavy footfall' areas, so flooring is purely a matter of taste.
Bear in mind that lighter shades of flooring make the room larger, while a darker floor will draw the room in.
