Why Optimize Your Website - A Beginner"s Guide to SEO
So why optimize your web site? SEO can make your content more relevant, more attractive, and more easily read by search engines.
Why is this important? Because it is what drives traffic to your website.
Without it, traffic might be low and potential customers might not even know that your business exists.
What is SEO, Anyway? SEO is an abbreviation for "search engine optimization".
It is a method of constructing web pages and whole sites so they can be discovered, analyzed, and indexed by various search engines.
Search engines find and rank sites by using spiders or robots.
They search the web categorizing sites as they find them.
How they categorize sites is the key to ranking well.
How do you achieve a good web search optimization? By having a website that is friendly to search engines.
Get Your New Website Ready Here are a few things you need to do to get your new website ready for tons of traffic: 1.
Make sure your contact information is prominently displayed.
Your target customers have to be able to get in touch with you.
If you don't want to do phone transactions, then at least provide either a contact form or an email address that visitors can use.
The best way to meet your potential customers' needs is to give them a way to interact directly with you.
2.
Understand your target audience's needs and recognize those needs when creating your website content.
Make sure your expertise shows in your chosen niche and that you provide enough current, relevant information in it for web search optimization.
3.
Choose a website theme that is well-made and thoughtful so that your visitors have a good experience.
Depending on the subject of your site, don't choose anything too elaborate or showy.
For example, I have a website for essential oils that is a little more "artsy" than my business oriented sites.
The content is going to count more than the design.
An effective layout will enable better management of internal traffic and allow the search engines to correctly optimize your web pages and posts.
4.
Solicit customer testimonials and provide a page for them.
Remember, word-of-mouth advertising is still the most effective form of marketing.
Testimonials will not only highlight your products or services, but will also build customer loyalty that will help jumpstart your SEO campaign and its optimization in Google.
Basic SEO Checklist 1.
Post/Page Title Tags A title tag tells users and search engines what the topic of your particular post or page is.
Ideally, you will be creating a unique title for each page on your site.
You want to help people decide if your page is relevant to their search, right? So, here is an example from Google that shows how a title should look: Don't use numbers or random letters of the alphabet-it will make it hard for people to tell what you post is about.

2.
Keywords To have your post appear in search engines for certain keywords, make sure these keywords appear often in your post-about every 100 words (over that and you might be considered a spammer).
It's best if you incorporate the keyword(s) into the flow of your writing so that it looks like they appear naturally.
That way, your readers will be able to read lovely content that just flows right along.
Don't worry-you can do it! 3.
Quality Links It is important that your posts are linked from other high quality sites-this will increase the number of links back to your previous posts and optimization in Google and other search engines.
On the other hand, if your site is linked to undesirable sites such as link farms, then it will have a negative effect on your search engine rankings.
4.
Anchor Text When you link your pages in blogs (posts), you will want to add proper anchor text for optimization in Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
What is anchor text? It is a word that is related to the post you have linked it to.
OK, what? We need an example here.
Suppose you are writing a post about making toys and use the anchor text "sell toys" in posts that link to it.
When search engines visit your site and see that anchor text, they follow it.
Then they know that your page is about selling toys.
Does that make sense? Leave me a comment to let me know-I will get back with you within 24 hours.
Well, I think that's about it.
This little guide covers only the most basic beginning stuff, but it is a great start in learning how to drive traffic to your website.
