How to Fit Seat Foam for a Chair Upholstery Seat
- 1). Turn the chair upside down. Use the Philips screwdriver to remove the existing seat cushion to unscrew the four screws located in the corners. Set the screws aside in a cup or bowl so they won't get lost.
- 2). Turn the chair right side up. Remove the existing seat cushion by lifting it off the chair. Flip the seat cushion over to expose the underside. Remove the upholstery staples holding the fabric to the seat with the flat head screwdriver. Pull out any staples that are difficult to remove with the pliers. Set the fabric aside.
- 3). Remove the existing foam and batting in the same fashion as the fabric. Dispose of the old foam and batting.
- 4). Lay the foam rubber on a table and place the wooden seat centered on top the foam. Trace the shape of the seat on the foam with a marker or pencil, adding 1/8 inch all the way around to compensate for the foam's reshaping and compression when the fabric is attached.
- 5). Cut out the foam shape using a butcher knife. Lay the batting on a table with the foam centered on top of it. Trace the foam shape onto the batting, but add 2 inches on all sides. Cut out the batting. The seat cushion is ready for new fabric.
