Descending From the Balcony
It is amazing to see that how in just a few pages you can learn so much about a person.
In this lovely book "Descending From the Balcony", Dr.
Mary Magdalene Welch shares her story.
The reader will see that is an awesome testimony of her faith, hope and certainly that is an inspiration to all who read it.
Dr.
Mary Magdalene Welch starts off by sharing with us how she would view her church services from the balcony of her local church.
She found it to be such a fantastic view and she also thanked God for being a part of her life.
So often people feel that worship was praying and singing in church but she learned early in life that the most intimate and profound experienceswould most likely be in the darkest hours of their life.
She lets her readers know that they can't continue to use the balcony as their hiding place but they must exit from it.
She then continues to share with her reader about her "Humble Beginnings".
Her life began in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1940.
By the age of five she had already discovered that it was something different about her than her siblings.
She was one that respected her parents and followed their rules to the letter.
By so doing she learned responsibility at an early age.
She also allows her readers to see how the hand of God was upon her life.
Her mother suffered migraine headaches.
After watching her mother crying out in pain from them, she asked the Lord to allow her to share the discomfort so her mom could work without any pain.
Later on she heard her mom laughing, but her head immediately began to hurt.
Dr.
Welch carried this pain for two years and one-day she realized the Lord had healed her.
She continues to share in a few more pages how the Lord revealed Himself in her life.
At the age of seventeen she found herself the victim of a rape.
When she finally got up the nerve to share it with her father, for she just knew he would handle it but to her amazement he did not believe her.
The attack left her bearing a child.
Due to stress surrounding her pregnancy she gave birth at seven months.
The baby stayed in the hospital for two months and when the boy's mother found out she had given birth she set out to take the child.
Now Dr.
Welch found herself struggling with hurt, misunderstanding, and rejection.
Yet in the midst of her struggles she found herself drawing closer and closer to the Lord.
She did marry and also had a daughter.
She shares with her readers being on the lower level will cause them to be humble.
She also learned that she had to face her past as well.
It took some time but we see how she came out of the balcony and is now fulfilling her ministry in the Lord.
I found this to be a great book to add to my reading library.
