What are dreams? And what kind of dreams do you have? For everybody, every night that we shut our eyes and begin to let the mind take over, we have a series of passing thoughts that form a vision.
These are our dreams.
Most of the times, our dreams don't make too much sense to us.
Have you ever had a dream where you were walking in the middle of the day in the city? The scene was bright and sunny and people walked nearby you going to wherever they needed to go.
Everything is going fine, then suddenly, you feel a rumbling sound.
People start shouting, the ground is shaking, the cement is splitting and you find yourself running for your life.
But there's nowhere to go.
You feel cement rising, and now you're 10 feet above the ground, 20 feet above the ground, 30 feet above the ground, you lose your balance, and you fall..
..
Then you wake up.
"It was just a dream," you pant.
Your body still feels tense and you rub your eyes looking at the clock.
It's only 5:30 AM...
You go back to sleep hoping...
that you won't have the same dream.
We all have weird dreams like this not knowing why exactly caused this type of emotionally experience.
There are happy dreams that make us feel good.
There are dreams that fulfill our needs and wants in reality.
There are dreams that unlock our deepest, secrets thoughts that are never expressed in public.
There are dreams that make us miserable or depressed.
There are dreams that haunt us from the past.
Sometimes, we want to stay in our dreams because we would rather enjoy the experience there than face wake up and face reality.
Other times, we try our best to limit the dreaming experience because we feel like it's a waste of time.
Nevertheless, dreams can be an important factor in learning more about our intuitions and help us relate more to our mind, body, and spirit.
So how are dreams interpreted and who has touched upon these issue of what they mean? Dreams have dated back generations ago when mankind first drew scriptures on stones, symbolic of different events that foreshadow the past, present, or future in some way.
When further development and intrigue came to place, man has always wanted to know about their meaning and how they affect not only their lives, but society in general.
Man has tried seeking these answers from shamans, medical practitioners, religious consultants, fortune tellers, and experts in the occult field.
Some of these people told man what he wanted to know.
But as time moved forward, the answers that man often seemed to get were pertained to some mysterious knowledge or secret or supernatural powers.
Many dream books were written in the future about this experience we have during our sleep, but the language was often difficult to understand unless one was in depth with the occult, supernatural language.
It was to say, that most of these dream books did not have much solid evidence in them and the people who written them used them more as a "psychological way" to help human beings that who had troubles with their very existence, hoping that their dreams would review a better and richer future.
It wasn't until Sigmund Freud started to associate our dreams with sexual symbols and sexual meanings; that sexual problems that people had in real life were often linked in our deepest dreams.
Other psychologist like Carl Jung, used Freud's meaning to come up with more associations of dreams, including the non-sexual nature of dreams, the environmental pressures of real life, the individual characteristics or personalities of people, and even psychic elements of people.
Nowadays, dreams can be interpreted in many different ways not only through psychologist, but through ordinary people that have extraordinary dreams such as dreams that foretell the future or dreams that feel psychic.
So how many dreams do you remember back from you were a kid, or better yet, since you were born? What do they mean? How do they relate to our waking existence? How do we know that there is an existence of reality around us when we lose our consciousness during those very moments under sleep? What can dreams tell us about our past, the present, and the future? And finally, what can dreams tell us about us? I hope to explore these elements with you and help you understand the different types of dreams we have in our daily experiences in the upcoming blog posts.
