How to Write an Apartment Rental Agreement
- 1). Navigate to a website that provides legal forms and print out a blank property rental form.
- 2). List the address of the property including the apartment number and ZIP code. Include the name of the property manager and how to contact him or her in case of emergency.
- 3). Specify how many tenants will occupy the unit. In most cases, adults over the age of 18 must be on the lease. The reason for this is because the manager can collect payment from the other renters should one fail to pay.
- 4). State the date the rent is due and any late fees that apply.
- 5). Detail length of the tenancy, as well as whether it is month-to-month or a specified period such as three, six or 12 months.
- 6). Specify any utilities that are included in the rent and which the tenant must pay, such as water, electricity, cable or phone.
- 7). Include a list of general expectations. For example: no noise after 10 PM, keeping the unit in clean condition, removal of trash to avoid rodents and insects and keeping pets on a leash.
- 8). Sign and date the lease and be sure that all adult occupants sign as well.
