Back and Forth
Nick and Melanie struggle in the hotel room as she begs him to let go of her. Nick yells how he refuses to let her go. “What are you gonna do? Kill me, like you killed my father?” she confronts. He grabs her again as Melanie yells how he stabbed Trent.
At Maggie’s House, Stephanie is relieved to see on her caller ID that Nick’s calling. What she doesn’t initially realize is that Melanie accidentally stepped on the Nick’s phone and dialed Steph’s number.
Philip takes the phone and hears the argument in the background as Melanie yells how Nick stabbed Trent. Melanie affirms that she remembers and knows the truth now. “And I’m sorry that you do. You’ll never know how sorry I am,” taunts Nick. Meanwhile, Philip and Stephanie listen on the other end to the shouting between Nick and Melanie. Nick covers a horrified Melanie’s mouth and urges her to listen to what he has to say. Otherwise, there’s no hope for the future.
Philip hears a plane in the background as Nick continues to taunt Melanie about marrying him in Vegas. He insists that he did everything for them and for their future. “No, there is no us!” she yells as she pushes him. She tries to escape out the door, but Nick grabs her and forces her back into the room. “I hate you! I hate you!” she cries.
Meanwhile, Steph tries to call Nick again, but Philip tells her to wait and mentions the plane they heard in the background. They head out the door together.
Melanie lashes out at Nick for killing her father and terrorizing her for weeks.
She demands for him to shut the hell up and leave her alone. Nick insists that he did it all in order to try and make her life better. He expresses how horrible he feels. Melanie suggests maybe she was too hard on him. She offers to forgive him if he can make things right. She takes his hand and implores him to call the police and confess.
Back at the Police Station
Bo and Hope later find on the computer that Nick used a credit card at the airport hotel. They are about to leave when Philip and Stephanie enter the office, revealing that Steph got a call and they heard screaming on the other end. Bo and Hope make a beeline out of there. Philip and Stephanie agree to head over to the hotel as well, even though Bo and Hope have told them to go home.
Philip tells Stephanie to keep a watch out to ensure no-one’s coming. She closes the door as Philip looks up the address to Salem Airway Motel, 13501 Seaside. Steph refers to him as a genius. Philip implores her to stay quiet and out of sight. They head out together.
Back at the Airport Hotel
Melanie continues to plead with Nick to turn himself in. She promises to visit him in prison all the time. He knocks the phone out of her hand and pushes her down. “I gave you everything! You don’t care about me!” yells a belligerent Nick, who accuses her of only wanting to save herself. Nick calms down and holds her as Melanie asks why he killed Trent. “Did you think he was gonna hurt me?” she questions. Nick recalls how he got to the cemetery and heard what sounded like an argument. He flashes back to seeing Trent knocking Melanie down, then Nick stabbed Trent in the back as Melanie lied unconscious. Nick admits he lost his mind and all he could think about was her. He continues to recall how Melanie was about to come to and Trent was staggering and gasping for breath. “I should’ve called the police. I should’ve stayed put. I should’ve just owned up to everything right then and there, but all I could think about was how much I wanted to be with you,” he laments. He insists that if he would’ve confessed, he would’ve had to give her up.
Nick confesses how another girl died before, but it wasn’t her fault. “Her name was Willow. She was my friend, until she started blackmailing me,” he recalls. Nick flashes back to his struggle with Willow over the hairbrush last year. She fell and hit her head and Nick yelled at her to answer him. Back to reality, Nick surmises that it’s all connected, since he caused one person to die for Chelsea and now another person for Melanie. “It seems like every time I try to do good, people end up dead. I can’t help but ruin everything I touch, including you,” he desponds.
Philip and Stephanie arrive at the airport hotel and attempt to get in the back service entrance door. He asks Stephanie if she has something to help pry open the door and she hands him a knife.
Back in the hotel room, a distraught Melanie tries to convince Nick that she wants to be with him, but he believes she’s lying. She promises that she won’t run from him. “I wanna trust you Melanie, I really do, and maybe one day I can,” he expresses. He goes to lock the door just as Melanie runs out towards the balcony. He rushes over and grabs her, refusing to let her go. Bo and Hope arrive outside the door in the nick of time. Meanwhile, Philip and Stephanie hear Melanie scream, as do Bo and Hope. Philip and Stephanie see Melanie on the balcony up above just as Bo kicks the door in. Nick accidentally lets go of Melanie, leaving her hanging over the edge.
