By the age of 50 the figures are roughly 50% each for both sexes.
So any myth that is just men that are affected by hair fall is just that, a myth.
You not only want thicker hair, but you want to keep it that way.
If you take action to prevent further loss as it is starts then you can stop it in its tracks and reverse it.
But if you wait until your head looks like a shiny plate then the chances of being able to do anything, other than a massively expensive hair transplant are remote.
The problem.
How do you know the difference between normal shedding and when you are losing hair permanently? If you can catch it in the early stages your chances of stopping it and reversing it are high.
The 60-second test.
There is a simple test you can carry out to check for "abnormal" loss.
This is called the 60-second test and is used in studies to test for excessive hair fall.
All you need is a comb and a sheet, or pillow cover.
This test must be done with dry hair.
Not after being washed and shampooed.
Place the comb over the top of your scalp, behind the crown and slowly comb forward, towards the front of your scalp.
Time this so it takes 60 seconds.
Then count the number of hairs in the comb and where they have collected on the pillow or sheet.
Do this on a regular basis.
If your are losing hair and it suddenly increases you have a problem.
How much is too much? It is accepted that when you are losing over 100 hairs a day it is time to panic.
Although different studies say it is 50 a day.
When you have reached this stage you need to take urgent action to grow thicker hair.
Not only to grow your hair thicker but keep it thicker.
Prevention is the secret.
What can I do? Ideally you should take action to prevent it before it even starts.
There are many things you can do.
Among them are eating a healthy diet and taking supplements for your hair.
All these help to prevent hair loss, instead of finding you are losing it in the 60 second test.
