Is Facebook bigger than Google? Well, not quite, but it is getting there.
According to Alexa, the social media giant is now the second largest website on the Internet.
Alexa ranks websites based on the average number of visitors they receive each day combined with the average page views per day.
Will Facebook be bigger than Google soon? This question is impossible for anyone to answer.
However, the number of users visiting the site has been growing slowly but steadily over the past three months.
The charts on Alexa clearly show a steady increase in daily reach for the social media site while the daily reach for the world's largest search engine seems to bounce back and forth between 40-44 percent of Internet users.
Over the course of the past three months, its share of Internet users has remained fairly constant.
If this trend continues, eventually more there will be more Internet users visiting Facebook each day than Google.
Which site is bigger in terms of time spent on the site? If you look at the amount of time users spend on each site daily, Facebook is a clear winner.
Its users spend an average of 31-33 minutes per day on the site.
In comparison, people who use Google usually only spend 10-14 minutes per day on the site.
It is easy to see the reason for this when you consider the purpose of each site.
If someone goes to a search engine, they only stay long enough to find what they're looking for.
However, with a social media site there are things to do and people to interact with.
Some people just stop by to check their messages, but others spend hours each day on the site.
So which site is bigger? For now, Google still reins as the number one site on the Internet.
However, only time will tell whether Facebook will continue to grow and eventually take over the number one spot.
