How to Change the Order of Taskbar Items

104 15

    Windows XP

    • 1). Activate the Quick Launch toolbar by first unlocking the taskbar (the long tab usually found across the bottom of the screen). Right-click an empty area on the taskbar. If "Lock the Taskbar" is checked, left-click to remove the checkmark.

    • 2). Right-click the taskbar again, then point to "Toolbars" and place a checkmark (click on) "Quick Launch." The empty Quick Launch toolbar appears immediately to the right of your green "Start" button. Enlarge its area by placing your cursor on the right-most vertical dotted line. Left-click the line, and then hold and drag it to the right to make a space for your icons.

    • 3). Add a program or shortcut to the bar by dragging its icon from your desktop to the taskbar; or, click "Start" and go to "All Programs." Select a program from the list and drag it down to the Quick Launch area. That program's icon will appear on your taskbar.

    • 4). To delete an icon, left-click it and then click "Delete" (This only removes the icon---not the program).

    • 5). Rearrange the icon order by clicking (and holding down) the left mouse button as you drag the icon to its desired location. Once the icon is where you want it, release the mouse button.
