    • 1). Park the Passat, and turn off the engine. Place tire blocks behind the back tires to prevent the Volkswagen from rolling. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels with the lug wrench. Lift the front of the vehicle with the jack, and support the frame of the car with jack stands.

    • 2). Remove the lug nuts, and take the wheels off. Remove the two caliper bolts with a 12-mm socket wrench. Lift the caliper from the caliper bracket, and place it on the steering area above.

    • 3). Pry the brake pads from the rotor (inside the caliper bracket slots) with a slotted screwdriver. Replace the pads with new ones, and slide them into the caliper bracket slots.

    • 4). Place the caliper piston tool onto the caliper. Turn the handle on the tool to force the piston into the side of the caliper. Remove the tool once the piston is fully depressed within the side of the caliper. Place the caliper back onto the brake pads and rotor. Screw in the caliper bolts, and replace the wheel.

    • 5). Lift the Volkswagen with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench.
