Cherish Those Precious Moments

103 102
Consider this, you were told you only have 2 months to live.
What do you do, who do you choose to see.
Simply how would you spend these precious hours? These were many things that went through my mind as I sat with my mother the last days of her life here on earth.
Mother so loved her family and friends, they were why she enjoyed her life.
A person could do about anything to her but they didn't want to mess with, or upset, the people near and dear to her.
She was a little lady with a heart filled with love for others and her Heavenly Father.
The very worst thing I ever heard come out of her mouth was "GERSH".
All her grandchildren were having a water fight in the basement with plastic bottles filled with water-lots of water.
You should know, her home was very special and until the day we moved her she kept it spotless.
As I sat watching this lovely lady I realized it would be up to me to make her last 2 months the best they could be.
She was living in our home, so I began by asking my brother and sisters to come visit her.
As they brought their families to visit I could see how very important it was to her to see us together.
Mother's greatest wish was for us to all get along, as many families I'm sorry to say, we had some sibling rivalries happening.
Mother always said she never wanted to live with regrets; therefore this gave Mother the opportunity to see us as a family again.
I invited Mother's friends to visit as often as they would and many times they would stay and visit while I went to the grocery store, doctor or just took a few minutes for myself.
These small acts of love shown to my Mother by others were very precious for all involved.
The last two months of Mother's life went so very fast, yet at times very slow.
I say fast because when she was gone and I no longer was able to care for her every need and show her the love and respect she deserved.
When I say time went slow it was because caring for her every need was very emotionally difficult.
Watching someone go from being a vibrant, independent woman in her eighties to a bedridden, physically exhausted woman in just a few months was very hard to accept.
Mother always was thankful for all that was done for her and she never lost her kind way of showing just how thankful she was for everything.
Being a caregiver has been the hardest, yet most rewarding act of love I have ever done in my life.
Would I do it again? You bet I would! These are definitely some of the most Precious Moments I have of my mother.
