Desmond Learns of Radsinski

Episode 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone - Flashback 5
Desmond wheels a bent file cabinet into the hatch.

Kelvin pours something into a measuring cup, then stirs it with a paint brush. "You ready?" Kelvin asks.
"Maybe you should do it," Desmond says.

"Come on, Des, you've seen me do it a hundred times."

Desmond goes to the wires and puts two together. The lockdown countdown begins, then the blast doors go down, one of them stopped by the cabinet Desmond had wheeled over. Desmond goes under the door and into the kitchen area, where Kelvin is working on the blast door map.

"How do you even remember where you left off?" Desmond asks.

"Slowly, very, very slowly. You should have seen Radsinski do this. Radsinski had a photographic memory. This whole thing was his idea."

"Yeah, Radsinski," Desmond says. "Radsinski figured out how to fake a lockdown, Radsinski created this great invisible map. You never want to tell me what bloody well happened to him."

Kelvin points to the ceiling. "See that brown stain there? That's Radsinski. He put a shotgun in his mouth while I was asleep. And the bitch of it was, I only had 108 minutes to bury the poor bastard."

"If you don't want me to go crazy," Desmond says, "then next time let me go out there."

"You want to go out there with the quarantine and the hostiles?"

"I haven't been outside for two bloody years! Yes I want to go. I was in the army for God sake!"

"Oh right, Her Majesty's Army right? Why'd you leave that nice old lady's army? Oh, that's right, you got kicked out because you couldn't follow orders."

"And why did you leave your army, Kelvin, huh?"

"Because men followed my orders. Oh but then, thank God, I joined the Dharma Initiative. Namaste, thank you, and good luck."

"Please, Kelvin, let me go out. Just once."

"Sorry, Des, you stay here. You push the button. That's an order.

The Security System

Episode 2x23, Live Together, Die Alone - Flashback 6
Desmond is awakened by the timer going off. He jumps up and starts yelling for Kelvin. He looks at the timer, 48 seconds left. He types in the numbers and the timer resets.
He hears Kelvin singing from below. A door in the floor is open and there is an empty booze bottle next to it. Desmond jumps down through the door with a flashlight. He shines the flashlight on Kelvin who is holding up a key.

"I couldn't do it," Kelvin says. He's lying next to a compartment that is opened that says Security System and has a key hole.

"What is this?" Desmond asks.

"This is the only other way out, partner."

"What are you talking about?"

"A failsafe. Turn this key and this all goes away. Poof."

"What's behind that wall, Kelvin? Huh? What was the incident?"

Kelvin whispers, "Electromagnetism, geologically unique. The incident? There was a leak. So now the charge builds up and every time we push the button, it discharges it, before it gets too big."

"Why make us do it? Push the button? If we can just-"

Kelvin laughs a drunken laugh and closes the security system. "Here's the real question, Desmond-o, do you have the courage to take your finger out of the dam, blow the whole thing up?
