Window Treatments for Shower Windows
- The materials chosen for shower window treatments need to reflect the environment. Wood blinds warp with moisture and many metal blinds rust, making them bad choices for a shower window, which are inundated with moisture every time the shower is used. If the look of either is desired, try a plastic-based blind that is either faux wood or metal. Plastic should be the main material used in window treatments, as it is more water resistant and less likely to form mildew.
- A variety of window treatments can be used for shower windows. These can range from either vertical or horizontal blinds to curtains. Consider the practicality of each kind: whether blinds are transparent or translucent, and if that is desired in the treatment, or whether you wish to pull the blinds up and down, and if the mechanism is of string or metal.
- If you prefer to leave the window without a covering such as blinds or curtains, yet still want the privacy they offer, treatments can be applied to windows themselves to increase their opacity. Translucent glass covering sheets are sticky on one side, and can be cut to the required size of the window with plain scissors. A variety of patterns and colors can be applied. Ensure the covering is made for bathrooms, otherwise the paper's ability to stick to glass may be hindered by moisture.
- Shutters are a means of adding privacy to a bathroom as well as style. They can be situated to the sides of the window or on the bottom, and can partially or fully cover the window. Ensure the shutters suit the color of the bathroom and are made out of plastic or vinyl to prevent them from warping.
