So you are ready to face your new life after graduating from nursing school.
You have acquired your ASN degree and you are looking forward to be the best nurse that you can.
Despite your excitement there is also apprehension that you will feel.
That is perfectly normal.
A person who is facing new things or experience is prone to being afraid as well.
The best thing that you do is to acknowledge it and make it work for you instead of against you.
There are still some valuable lessons that you need to take note of as a new ASN nurse.
Respect is Earned Sometimes it can be a difficult position if you are a new nurse.
People may not treat you with the respect you expect.
However, you also have to realize that respect is earned.
You have to show your colleagues that you deserve it by working as hard as you could and showing professionalism at all times even if the situation can be sometimes difficult.
Own Up When we are a new nurse we sometimes feel that we need to pretend that we know what other people are talking about even if it is the opposite.
That is not the right attitude.
It is better to own up about what you know and what you do not know because it is better that way.
It can mean a life and death situation so when you do not know something it is better to admit it and ask help from people who know about it.
Punctuality Matters As the saying goes, time is gold.
This is also the same when you start your duty.
Make sure that you are punctual and avoid being late.
It can be an inconvenience if you are not time conscious and there might be schedules that can be disrupted if you are not punctual.
Protection is Also for You You would want to protect your patients from the diseases that they may found in the hospital.
But before you worry about other people, you should also be concerned about yourself.
Protect yourself by putting on mask or other protection that you might need to prevent you from getting diseases.
A Mentor is a Friend One of the things that you need to do when you enter a hospital is to find a mentor.
This can be an experienced nurse that can guide you on what are the things that you need to do.
They will guide you and be your supporter as well as your teacher.
