    • 1). Shut off the water to the show by closing the hot and cold water pipe valves in the shower wall through the access panel. Or, shut off the home's main water line near the water heater.

    • 2). Unscrew the handle's set screw on the side of the faucet with an Allen wrench and pull off the handle.

    • 3). Remove the round trim plate screws with a screwdriver and pull off the trim plate. This part is called the escutcheon and it retains the faucet sleeve.

    • 4). Unscrew the faucet's sleeve around the faucet body and then unscrew the faucet's bonnet nut, under the sleeve. This is a round, ring-shaped nut that screws over the faucet valve.

    • 5). Extract the faucet valve by pulling it back and away from the faucet. Inspect the valve for damage, worn out seals and gaskets or clogs. Flush out the cartridge or replace it with a new one if the valve is damaged. If you see no damage but the faucet leaks, replace the valve because it will likely solve the problem.
