How to Fix a Wet Sidekick Phone

104 5
    • 1). Remove the battery and battery cover from your Sidekick. If your Sidekick has a hard or soft case, remove the case.

    • 2). Rinse your Sidekick and the battery in fresh water if it was immersed in salt water. Salt water can leave salt crystals when it dries. The crystals attract moisture from the air, and can cause corrosion.

    • 3). Drain out as much of the water as you can. Hold the phone in different positions so the water drains out. Do not shake the Sidekick -- shaking can loosen the internal connections.

    • 4). Wipe the phone with paper towels to remove moisture from all the places you can reach. Pay attention to the gaps between keys and the openings under the battery cover.

    • 5). Fill a bowl half full of uncooked rice, place the Sidekick and battery in the bowl, and cover them with more rice. The rice acts as a desiccant, sucking the remaining water out of the Sidekick.

    • 6). Leave the Sidekick and the battery immersed in the rice for approximately 24 hours, then remove the phone from the rice and lay it face down on a paper towel.

    • 7). Check the paper towel for signs of moisture after an hour. Look for water stains or wet spots. If you don't find any signs of water, lay the Sidekick on its back and check again after another hour. If you find signs of moisture, return the phone to the rice bowl for another 24 hours.

    • 8). Reinstall the battery and battery cover if you don't find any signs of moisture, then power the phone on.
