2011 Best International Budget Airline
About.com readers have voted Jetstar Airways the best international budget airline. Jetstar began operations in 2004 and is based in Melbourne, Australia. It is owned by Qantas but operated separately. Its current fleet numbers 58 (mostly Airbus A320-200) and about 30 destinations are served.
Jetstar provides budget service not only in Australia, but throughout Asia and as far east as Honolulu. For many years, budget airline options were scarce across much of Asia.
Perhaps this explains why Jetstar has been able to grow relatively quickly and serve cities such as Bangkok, Manila and Tokyo. It's possible Jetstar will expand into markets in India within the next few years.
The airline does not have its own dedicated frequent-flier program, but passengers can accrue benefits through Qantas.
