Star Wars Multiplayer Games
- Six "Star Wars" films were released to theaters between 1977 and 2005. The first three films, "A New Hope," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi," are the last three installments in the story. The most recent three releases, "The Phantom Menace," "Attack of the Clones," and "Revenge of the Sith," are the first three chapters in the story. Many video games based on the movies and their universe have been released, and some of them allow multiple players to participate.
- LucasArts released "Star Wars: Episode I Racer" in May 1999 for Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, PC, and Macintosh. "Episode I Racer" on the PC and Mac allows up to eight players to compete in races using fictional vehicles called pod racers that appear in "The Phantom Menace." Choose from multiple tracks. As you enjoy more success, you unlock additions to your pod racers that improve their performance. Many of the tracks include obstacles that are difficult to navigate around, and there are no weapons to use against other players at the beginning of the game. Choose between different characters to use during races, and more characters are unlocked as the game progresses.
- LucasArts released "Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron" exclusively for the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, in October 2007. "Renegade Squadron" features a multiplayer mode that supports eight players on a local network and 16 players online. Known as Conquest mode, the multiplayer action separates the players into teams that must work together to obtain different areas before their opposition does. There are 15 total multiplayer maps from which to choose, and players may select their weapons before battle. While playing online, players can view their overall skill rankings and compete with others all over the world.
- "Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed" was released by LucasArts exclusively for PC in October 2004. "Jump to Lightspeed" is a role-playing game that puts players in the shoes of one of many different Star Wars characters. "Jump to Lightspeed" also features an elaborate multiplayer mode. Players can pick between different professions in the Star Wars universe, and they also must pick the planets they want to inhabit. Players can also compete against one another in combat with their different planes.
