How to Remove Fresh Paint
- 1). Dab as much fresh paint from the surface as possible with clean paper towels or cloths. Do not rub, as rubbing at the paint can work it deeper into porous surfaces such as clothing or carpet.
- 2). Scrape up any quick-drying paint with the flat edge of a scraper, dull knife or spoon. With fresh paint, the dabbing and scraping should remove most of the paint.
- 3). Dampen a rag in turpentine, acetone or paint thinner. Apply the solvent to the area lightly. Use only as much solvent as necessary, since you don’t want to soak your surfaces with chemicals.
- 4). Allow the solvent to work on the surface for 10 minutes; the solvent will dissolve the paint’s bond with the surface. Wipe or scrape away remaining paint.
- 5). Rinse the area with clean, cool water to remove residual chemicals.
