- Park your car on a flat surface and put the handbrake on.
Check that you are able to get to the oil pan on the underside of the car; if you can't reach the oil pan then you will need to park the car on ramps or use a jack and jackstands to access the oil. - Place a container large enough to catch all of the oil underneath the pan so that you are ready to remove the plug.
Remove the plug from the oil pan; you may have to use a wrench to loosen the plug first.
When the plug is removed oil will rush out of the pan and should collect in the container you placed underneath.
Some plugs are magnetic so that they remove any metal from the oil.
You may need to clean off the plug before replacing it. - Open the bonnet of the car and change the oil filter.
First you will need to find it, it should look like a cylinder coated in rubber.
Check your handbook to find it if you don't know where it is.
Use an oil filter wrench to remove the filter.
Take the new filter and coat it with a small amount of oil and then screw into place by hand.
Do not use the wrench to tighten the filter. - Replace the oil.
Find the oil filler cap under the bonnet.
You need to have bought suitable oil for your car.
Use a funnel to pour it into the engine.
Do not over fill with oil. - Oil cannot be thrown away as it is toxic.
Dispose of the used oil correctly.
