What Airport Parking Facilities Are Available For Stansted Airport?

103 17
The growth of Stansted airport over the past 25 years has been nothing short of staggering and is the direct result of the decision taken in 1984 to develop Stansted to relieve the burden of required to meet the demand from the South-East of England from Gatwick and Heathrow.
From a staring point of less than a million passengers using the airport in the late eighties, over 22 million passenger passed through this airport in 2008, making it the third busiest airport in the UK overtaking Manchester airport.
Heathrow and Gatwick remain number 1 and 2 respectively, but if Stansted gets approval for a second runway as opposed to Gatwick or the Tories overturn the planning consent granted for a third runway at Heathrow, Stansted will quickly outpace Gatwick.
The airport has become a hub for low cost flyers including Ryanair and Easyjet who were attracted by lower handling charges that assisted them in passing these savings onto their customers fuelling this incredible growth.
The only thing that is not cheap at Stansted is the cost of parking which is only a few pounds less than parking at Gatwick.
Stansted Airport Parking options Long stay Primarily for use by holidaymakers who will be away for more than a few days, although anyone can make use of this car park notwithstanding the length of stay.
This is the cheapest form of parking at Stansted and far less than the mid-stay car park.
The long stay car parks are about 10 minutes ride from the terminal although I have known this to take longer depending on how many times to bus stops to pick up passengers.
To be picked up for your journey to the terminal you need to make your way to the various bus shelters spread about the car parks.
Spaces next to these shelters always fill up first so it is a good idea if you are not alone to drop off your family or friends at the bus stop saving you having to drag luggage across the car park.
These buses come round about every 5 to 7 minutes but at peak periods they soon fill and waiting times can be longer and the same for the journey back from the terminal.
Mid stay Designed for the businessman who does not want to get caught up with all the holidaymakers and their luggage.
Also this service is more frequent with a shorter transfer to and from the terminal.
Short stay Used for dropping off or collecting customers.
Sometimes passengers who are on an internal flight returning the same day make use of this car park.
Not recommended for use if your stay is more than 24 hours because the costs are very expensive Valet Parking - Meet and Greet service Most hassle free way to park at Stansted airport where you are met close to departures and upon your return your car can be picked up at the close by short stay car park and away you go.
Valet parking is about double the price of the long stay car park.
Whichever, facility you decide to use, you must book your Stansted airport parking beforehand because if you just turn up you will be in danger of having a cardiac arrest when you see the parking fee? To give you some idea, of these costs, if you were to leave your car in the short stay for 8 days the cost per day is nearly 30 a day.
