How to Attach Wood to Ceramic Tile Floors

    • 1). Vacuum the space between the hardwood floor and the ceramic tile. Make sure there is no debris left that will lift the transition board.

    • 2). Measure and mark the length of your T-molding, then cut the T-molding to your measurements with a table saw.

    • 3). Pre-fit the T-molding between your ceramic floor and your hardwood floor. The molding should not be tight, and more than a quarter-inch of the molding should overhang each side of the floor. You do not want the molding to be tight in the hole since you want to allow for the expansion and contraction of the wood floor.

    • 4). Apply a bead of construction adhesive along the edge of the ceramic tile floor. Place the T-molding into position and press firmly. You may want to place some heavy books or objects on the molding while it cures for 24 hours. Do not glue the wood side, as this will allow the molding to expand and contract with the wood floor.
