How Often Should You Fertilize Zoysia Grass in the Summer?
- Zoysia requires two to three applications of nitrogen fertilizer throughout the growing season, according to Texas A&M. Only one of these should be applied during the summer, however. Allow for 1 pound of nitrogen for every 1,000 square feet.
- Apply fertilizer twice to zoysia every growing season, one in mid-May and one in mid-July, according to the University of Missouri. Over-application is wasteful and unnecessary. Do not apply more than 2 pounds total of nitrogen fertilizer per year.
- Apply up to 2 pounds of nitrogen fertilizer annually, divided up in to two or three applications. Only one of these should be applied in the summer, though some people may consider the late spring application during May a summer application. Test the soil to determine nutrient needs before fertilizing, as suggested by North Carolina State University.
