Second Hand Woodworking Machines

101 15
Woodworking machines are any machine that is powered by electricity or electric motor. Some machines, such as grinding machine and portable drills, are relatively less expensive and affordable. These machines will help make woodworking somewhat easier and faster. The more intensive machines which are meant to process wood or perform specialized functions are much more expensive and should be considered carefully before making a purchase.

If you are someone new in DIY woodwork or just a beginner hobbyist, I strongly suggest you withhold the idea or urge to get expensive machine tools. You are probably better off waiting until you are absolutely sure that woodworking is your passion and will likely be your hobby for many years to come. It is wiser to work with hand tools and relatively cheap electric tools until your skill and crafts are more mature. If you absolutely have to have those more sizable power tools, you probably want to consider the second hand woodworking machines.

Power or machines tools can be categorized into stationary and hand-held types. The stationary machines, as its name implies, are stationary and larger in size. The hand-held type will be smaller and portable. There is a whole range of hand-held power tools, such as chain saw, domino joiner, biscuit joiner, electric drill, jig saw, miter saw, portable circular saw, nail gun, router, rotary tool and many more.

The range of stationary machines is equally impressive. The stationary ones include machines such as drill press, drum sander, bench grinder, wood lathe, band saw, panel saw, scroll saw, table saw, mortiser, tenoner, combination machine, jointer, and many more. In general, the power machines can be found in commercial set up as well as in the workshop of hobbyist. Most of the machines can be used on solid timber as well as on composite products.

For someone who intends to set up their own woodworking shop, I also strongly suggest looking into second hand woodworking equipment. The used woodworking machine will definitely be cheaper than the new one. Even many of those into woodworking professionally are often shopping for second hand machinery. They buy these machines for the reason of doing the job correctly, rather than for the sensation of owning some big machine. Second hand machines are certainly the feasible way to go.

So, where can you look for second hand woodworking equipments? You will be surprise there are many second hand machines out there. One venue for the used machines is garage sales. Flea market is also a good place to find your second hand equipment. Of course, online search is a good place to start your search.

When you are buying second hand machines, make sure you know how to operate them. Many old machines do not come with manuals as they are probably lost by their owner years ago. You also want to make sure the machine is in good working order. If the machine looks like they had been overused, abused or has a lot of evidence of wear and tear, you better look for the next one. If possible, shop for one that has some reputation in the market, whether now or years ago. A brand name machine will likely get you more mileage than an unknown one. Another thing to take note of is the parts needed to be changed due to wear and tear. Will you be able to find replacement part for the machine you are buying? You must make sure the replacement parts, if any, are still available in the market.

Finally, weigh carefully on your needs to own a woodworking machine. If you can do without it, live without it until you absolutely need it.
