25 Days of Christmas 2008 - Day 3

106 29

Add a little holiday cheer to your day with the 25 Days of Christmas. Each day will feature a Bible verse, a special holiday Carol, the holiday TV schedule for the day, a musical gift idea, a movie of the day, a recipe to try, and something extra as well.

Day 3 of the 25 Days of Christmas is all about giving. Countdown to Christmas and remember to give freely with a joyous heart.

Merry Christmas!

Bible Verse of the Day

  • Deuteronomy 15:10 (New Century Version)
Give freely to the poor person, and do not wish that you didn't have to give. The Lord your God will bless your work and everything you touch.

This time of the year, just about every store that you go in will have bell-ringers out front, taking donations for the needy. Ecomonic times are tough all over but remember that while you may not have as much to spend on your friends and loved ones as you would like, at least you do have something. There are plenty of people out there that can't afford to buy a single gift and still pay their bills. There are folks who will dream of turkey and all of the trimmings for Christmas dinner, but their reality will be more like turkey sandwiches. Every little bit helps and giving freely will allow you to really help someone less fortunate than yourself.

    Did You Know ...

    ...

That DecembeRadio's guitarist Eric Miker names "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" as his favorite Christmas song and 'National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation' as his favorite Christmas movie? As for Christmas albums, he says that Tony Bennett's Christmas croonings bring back fond memories. "I have great memories of Christmas Eve at the Belcastro's (my grandparents’ house), listening to Christmas music from Tony Bennett."
    Eric's favorite Christmas gift? Jesus!

Giving at Christmas has always been important to this great guy. When asked about the best gift he's ever given, he said, "I was able to sponsor a child's entire wardrobe and toys for Christmas with a charity Christmas concert my praise band played in high school. With proceeds we made from the show, each of us was able to take a kid and sponsor them through Angel Tree at the church. Even though we butchered “Silent Night” a cappella, it still turned out great."

Family is also important to Eric. When asked about his favorite Christmas tradition, he said, "Being with family. I go to my mother’s parents on Christmas Eve with all my Italian relatives, eat seafood and open gifts. Then, on Christmas Day, I go to my father’s parents for more traditional American Christmas foods (ham, turkey, yams), and usually we do some type of hunting (squirrel, rabbit, quail or deer)."

Christian Musical Gift Idea of the Day

    • Building 429 - Building 429
The group's fourth album is pop/rock ... catchy and full of encouragement. ()

    Family Movie of the Day

    • How the Grinch Stole Christmas(Compare Prices)
The original versions of this classic Christmas movie will never grow old.

Christmas Sports Gift Idea of the Day

    • Women's Snowboard
Women's-specific snowboards are softer flexing and generally shorter versions of the boards the guys ride, allowing the ladies to rip just as hard as the boys on the hill. If you have a lady in your life that likes to snowboard, Christopher Del Sole, our Guide to Snowboarding, has a great guide to the latest in boarding. 2008-2009 Women's Snowboard Buyers Guide

    Recipe of the Day

    • Did I mention that I love soup when it's cold? You have probably figured that out since this is the third day of soup around here, but it's something of a new tradition for me. The first few days of December should definitely be full of soup. (Think of all of the room that you're saving for later!)
Fresh Cream of Potato Soup - This is one of my kid's favorite winter foods. It can be topped with bacon pieces, ham chunks or even bite-sized pieces of steak ... not to mention cheese.
