Louver Definition
- Louvers are a series of parallel slats in windows, shutters, grates or appliances such as fans or air conditioners. In traditional constructions, louvers remain in a fixed position. However, louvers on mechanical devices may have a certain degree or movement to aid in the circulation of air.
- Louvers serve to allow air to pass through windows, doors or appliances that circulate air. Louvers prevent materials such as rain or other debris from passing into a building through the windows or doors. In addition to this, louvers protect the internal mechanisms of an appliance from becoming clogged with debris. Louvers may also serve as decoration.
- Louvers on windows or shutters can provide a measure of privacy to home or building owners. Furthermore, louvers can also prevent light from penetrating into a room and reduce the amount of heat that the light causes. A person may be able to adjust the position or movement of a louver, depending upon the mechanism to which it is attached.
