How to Make a Castle Background

    • 1). Spread out newspaper sheets over the floor where you're going to paint. Lay a piece of white fabric over the newspaper. You can use an old sheet, a tarp or material from a fabric store.

    • 2). Spray a thin, even layer of blue spray paint over the entire piece of material, to get a blue sky backdrop. Let dry.

    • 3). Spray a green border at the bottom edge of the fabric using green spray paint to make grass. Make the border about 6 inches tall. Let dry.

    • 4). Paint a large, gray square at the center of the fabric, using gray acrylic paint and a foam paint brush. Fill in the inside of the square with the gray paint, to make the main part of the castle.

    • 5). Paint a tall column at either side of the castle wall, using gray acrylic paint. Make each column about a foot taller than the top of the castle wall you painted.

    • 6). Paint a triangle on top of each column, making the base of the triangle the same width as the width of the column. Use pink paint to make the triangles, to look like turrets. Let the castle painting draw.

    • 7). Add details to the castle. Paint green climbing vines up the side of the castle wall or light gray brick lines to give depth. You can paint flowers at the base of the castle and a rounded doorway at the center of the wall. Use your imagination to make a castle you like.

    • 8). Hang the backdrop up on a wall using painter's tape. The painter's tape won't damage the paint job on your wall.
