According to Dr. Marvin Candle on the Orientation film (Ep: 2x3, Orientation), "The Dharma Initiative was created in 1970, and it is the brainchild of Gerald and Karen DeGroot -- two doctoral candidates at the University of Michigan following in the footsteps of visionaries such as B.F. Skinner."

What's the deal with the Dharma Initiative? We know that the Dharma Initiative was founded in the 70s, and then the Others took over by killing all of them.

Does this organization only operate on the island or does it have branches all over the world? Did they know many of their members were murdered on that island? What's the deal between them and the Others afterward? Discuss in the comments.
