Fun Things to Do With Toddlers in Houston

    Houston Zoo

    • Introduce your toddler to the animals at the Houston Zoo and discover critters great and small from Asia to Borneo to the Texas backyard. Toddler-friendly attractions include the Wildlife Carousel, Kipp Aquarium, Wortham World of Primates and the John P. McGovern Children's Zoo featuring a petting area, water playground, pop-up view domes in the prairie dog habitat and a bat cave. Eat at the Macaw Café or Cypress Circle Grill, or grab a snack at one of the 28 carts and kiosks offering fare from cotton candy to hot dogs. Food and beverages are allowed inside the zoo. On-site features include free parking, a gift shop and picnic areas. Closed only on Christmas Day, the Houston Zoo is open daily year-round.

    Children's Museum of Houston

    • Open since 1980, the Children's Museum of Houston offers children under the age of 12 a variety of educational activities and exhibits that connects them with innovative learning experiences in a fun environment. The Tot Spot is a toddler-specific space for children younger than 3 showcasing the Tot Spot Discovery Area and Toddler Story Time. Dine at the Kid's Cafe, which offers favorites such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and cheese pizza. Museum highlights include a gift shop, parking garage and free admission every Thursday night from 5 to 8 for Family Night. Open Tuesday through Sunday, the Children's Museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday.

    Space Center Houston

    • Reach for the stars and launch your toddlers into the concept of space and space travel at the Space Center Houston, the official visitors center for the Johnson Space Center and home to the history of the space program. Attractions and exhibits include the Kids Space Place, "The Feel of Space" and the Lego Castle Adventure. Eat at the Zero-G Diner; choices for tot space cadets include mini-rocket dogs and chicken saucers. Space Center Houston features the Space Trader Gift Shop, offers ample parking and is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day.
