Goa may be the smallest state of India in terms of area, but it is the country's richest, with a GDP that amounts to about two and a half times that of the entire country. It is bordered by Maharashtra state to its north, Arabian Sea to its west, and Karnataka to its south and east. From the month of October to March, Goa experiences a highly pleasant climate, especially in the winter month of December. This particular month is also a peak tourist season with grand festivities during Christmas and New Year's Eve. Hot season makes its presence felt in the state during the months of April and May with a slight increase in humidity levels. Tourists can have an excellent time on beaches as temperatures are mostly pleasant, even during the summer months. Getting around in Goa is made convenient with several options in public and private transportation. Motorcycle taxi is a popular form of transport in the state, while unmetered taxis and auto-rickshaws are also available at reasonable rates. Local buses in Goa are much cheaper and cover even the remotest areas.

Ferry boats with flat bottoms are used for river crossings in the state by locals as well as tourists. They move at an unhurried pace with people and vehicles aboard. Rates for travelling on these ferry boats are quite reasonable and their services are available from dawn till dusk. People enjoying their holidays in Goa always look forward to shop for some souvenirs, which they can take home with them. Local handicrafts of the state make for ideal gifts or mementoes. The hotels near Colva Beach give tourists the required convenience in getting to the markets where they are sold. Exquisite wood carvings, bamboo crafts, cotton bags, table mats, and items made from brass or terracotta can be found in these markets. All these items are crafted by professional local craftsmen and by artisans employed at the government-run arts and crafts complexes.
