What are Lanyards Used for?
- Small versions of lanyards can be made to clip onto zippers. Zipper pulls can be color coordinated to fit your purse or handbag. They can also be made for children's and adult coats and jackets. Tiny lanyards such as these work well for small children's coats to help them grip and pull their zipper. Simple stitches, such as the square (also called box), diamond or circle stitch can be made into zipper pulls. It requires the use of just two colors of plastic craft lace to create. A simple weaving technique is done by creating loops and weaving the second color over and under the first strand's loops.
- Using the square stitch creates a seamless bracelet or necklace. Weave both ends together to makes it look seamless. The cobra stitch works well for a bracelet too. This uses two colors and creates a snake-like design using a knotting technique. Tie a knot in one end of two, same-length strands. Then, slip a third strand into the knot that is almost twice as long as your first strands. Then use the shorter strands to tie knots all the way down the strand.
- Lanyards are commonly used for ID tags. Neck lanyards are a little longer than regular necklaces and have a metal clip or swivel hook in the front to hold a photo ID tag, whistle or keys. ID tag holder lanyards are used in school and work places to identify children and employees for safety. They are also used at trade shows, worn by the booth staff members. Design your own with any type of lanyard stitch design. Add a hook in the front for your ID tag.
- Any type of lanyard stitch design can be used for key chains. Key chain lanyards are a bit longer than zipper pulls. Lanyard key chains are inexpensive gift ideas since many people use them. Use a lanyard hook, swivel hook or key ring for these projects. Color coordinate your key chain lanyards for holidays or sports teams. Weave the ends together to create shapes, such as a fish or heart design. Key chain lanyards are a fun project idea for kids' birthday parties to make and swap with their friends or bring home as a favor.
